  1. Dear John, Great. This exercise was very important. Many thanks

    • Yoni Rittner zz

    • +Yoni Rittner you’re welcome Yoni and thank you very much!

  2. John, I can’t thank you enough for uploading this video! It’s one of my ten favorites and I bookmarked it for future reference. You don’t know (or maybe you do) how important it is for beginning artists to learn the BASICS> HILLS, GRASS, DIRT {PATHS, etc. I have been painting now for a few years and I can see an improvement in my paintings, but I always stuck to ONE type of brush and ONE technique for making grass – I just didn’t know there were more ways. On instructional videos I would always see the artist making big circles in the air with their brush and letting it hit the canvas repeatedly at a certain angle to make bended grass blades. I THOUGHT FOR YEARS THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT! But now I see you making bended leaves so easily, why didn’t I think of it??? I also never saw an instructional video that showed highlighting forefront grass. It makes such a big difference.
Just yesterday I was walking home and looking at all the pretty purple and white wildflowers growing in the grass by the side of the road. It was so beautiful. Maybe in the future you can show how to put wildflowers in the forefront grass.
I’ve watched so many painting instruction videos by different artist, but what I really like about yours is that you don’t speed them up, or use a lot of time lapse that skips over steps. I find these types like this one much more useful even than watching someone paint a whole painting. It helps me so much to also see an artist explaining EXACTLY what brush to use and the different results one gets from each brush. Please make more of these videos that stick to ONE basic, like grass, clouds, multi-colored hills, etc. I’ve bookmarked a few you’ve made, but for instance I still can’t paint shadows or dirt paths in a landscape, maybe you will make videos on these topics someday like you just did for grass. I appreciate all the help you are giving us. Thanks again.
