In the process, first step is to sketch the form of the rocks for the guide and 2nd step is to add the textures using gesso and palette knife, you can follow the steps on the video. The 3rd step is to let it dry for at least 30 minutes and add then add the under painting which is darker in colors like the raw umber. On my work surfaces I use House Paint with Primer already add to it on wood paneling ,canvas and it’s great and permanent . Now another thing I do for many years I’m 68 yrs. old being painting since 12 yrs. old . I mixed Joint Compound , white glue and and white paint until it becomes a good mix and with a palette knife I create Boulders for my rivers and beaches also water falls and a large variety of rocks including coral reefs for my underwater paintings also for old rough structures .try it guy’s you will like it.

Your white balance on the canvass is a light green. Sorry. HTH
Art of John Magne Lisondra says:
it’s okay… i forgot to correct the color before uploading… just get the values when you copy the painting.. then you can have any appropriate color for it.
Trucker Daddy - AKA John in Québec says:
@Art of John Magne Lisondra Sorry. When you put down white, it comes out greenish. I get the tutorial but not the coloring. Gracias, John
Art of John Magne Lisondra says:

Mr. Lisondra what do you recommend for a beginner to try and paint? Maybe some flowers?
Art of John Magne Lisondra says:
you can start with simple objects… yes with flowers, trees and mountains.. but I also recommend to practice mixing colors using 5 limited.
Hijab Asif says:
Thanks for sharing it
Is gesso important to use plz guide
Laura Klabe says:
I use gesso as a primer. You can tint it with paint to make an “undertone” for your painting, just like your skin undertones and makeup. Personally, i prefer modeling paste for texture, it comes in different thicknesses and its used primarily for paint thickening and you mix it directly with your paint and you can bypass his drying stage
Hijab Asif says:
Art of John Magne Lisondra thanks alot
Art of John Magne Lisondra says:
for textures only and for prime… you can still painting without gesso as textures
